Favorite Time of Year!

Tumblr_l9e6cn2dxo1qcms3ao1_500_large
As much as I love Christmas, the days between Christmas and New Year's are my favorite time of the year. I get stuff organized in my apartment and can hang out with friends and set goals for the new year!
Last year I posted the Goal Chart that I really love, but I'm thinking of just making a list this year. Actually, 2 lists-goals I want to achieve and 12 Things to Do in L.A. and hopefully cross off one a month!
I'll be posting those lists in the next few days, but for now, what are your goals for the next year?

Calling

I've been thinking all week about the idea of having a "calling". I think this is something I've always been somewhat obsessed with but maybe just never used the actual word "calling". I will say I've known for a long time that I was called to work in entertainment, but I do sometimes wonder if callings can change. Like can you have multiple callings for different times in your life?
An article was written for Boundless Webzine and it was called "Career vs. Calling" (their site is down right now so I can't link to it, but I'll update it later). In the article the author states, "The call of God is both universal and personal. He desires an intimate relationship with all of his creation-a universal longing that none would perish. Yet, when you heed that call, there is a deeper plan to discover-a specific assignment only you can complete; 'The Lord has assigned to each his task(1 Cor. 3:5)."
I love the idea that God has a plan specifically designed for me. I think the thing that gets me is that a calling should be one specific thing and if you aren't doing that thing then you are in the wrong. Does that make sense? Like you're missing out because you aren't doing what you are destined to do.
The article discussed how so many college students simply seek out a career and not a calling. He then walks through how to find your calling. This is something I think I'm really going to explore and seek in the next year. It was interesting timing since I was already thinking of exploring some new options in a couple of months and I kind of have a plan in place, this goes right along with it.
So what about you? Do you know your calling? How was it made clear to you? If not, have you even tried to find your calling? I'd love to know!

Frazzled

Do you ever feel like life is spinning a little out of control? I do and I realize that most of the time I have no one to blame but myself. I let things get away from me. I'm a master to-do list maker, but a to-do list finisher? Not so much. Lately I've let things like television and playing dumb games on Facebook get in the way of more productive activities, or even other fun ones like writing you all here!
When I am responsible and actually do what I was supposed to I feel so much better. This weekend I finally picked up my apartment. I even vaccuumed which I absolutely hate doing. Once it was done though I was so much more relaxed and I could actually enjoy reading a magazine or watching a movie instead of feeling guilty about not doing what needed to be done. I guess it's really all about getting your priorities straight. This is something I definitely need to get a handle on now because in the coming months I have a lot going on and am realizing I will need to use my time wisely.
So my questions to you are, how do you waste time and what have you done to be better with how you use your time?

Welcome!

Life after college. I think my first year out was just one huge transition and I’ll be honest, it sucked. Its been four years since I graduated and while I’ve made a lot of progress I think I’m still figuring out what it means to be an “adult”. There are a lot of new experiences after graduation; getting a “real” job, moving into your own place, setting a budget, investing in a 401K. Ugh. But there is great freedom in this whole adult thing. You never have to write a term paper again, when you are done with work there is no need to study, and your time is your own (other than work, obviously).

I remember 22-23 being especially difficult because while I was ready to move into adulthood my friends were not. Half of them still worked at Starbucks and ate dinner at Baja Fresh. They lived in apartments with four people and just wanted to hang out for a while. I on the other hand had a real job with a salary and benefits and was ready to move to L.A. So, in March of 2005 that’s what I did. I moved to Los Angeles. The city I love. I basically started all over.

So, four years later I think I’ve figured some of it out, but I definitely have a ways to go. This blog is about what’s going on in my life at the moment along with some tips and tricks I’ve discovered along the way.
